This skill covers authoring and debugging pipelines built on github actions, from a first test job through to release automation and cross platform matrix builds. It assumes the project already lives on github and that a command line client or plain git is present. ## What it does - Sets up automated testing on push and pull request events. - Builds deployment pipelines for staging and production environments. - Automates releases with tags and changelogs. - Explains caching, parallelism and matrix builds for testing across platforms. - Helps debug failing workflows and manage secrets and environment variables in ci. ## When it is the wrong choice The material is specific to one provider, so a repository hosted elsewhere gains nothing from it. Workflow files are also declarative configuration rather than code, which means logic that would be a small function has to be expressed as steps and conditionals, and readability collapses well before a real script would. For a project with one trivial check, a local script run by hand is cheaper to own than a pipeline definition that must be maintained. ```bash # a minimal test job runs these steps in order npm ci npm test npm run lint # the workflow file itself lives in the repository # .github/workflows/ci.yml ``` ## Working notes - The example workflow triggers on pushes and pull requests to the main branch. - Package caching is enabled through the setup step rather than written by hand.
