Keep an Append-Only Log of What a Run Did

A run that stores only its current state cannot explain why the state is what it is, and a run that failed leaves nothing to replay. This skill covers an append-only event log for agent runs: record each step as an immutable event carrying the run identifier and a sequence number, rebuild current state by folding the events in order, never edit a past event but append a correcting one instead, and use the log to replay a run in a test environment when a step needs investigating.

Commands

$ openclaw command add --name "run events" --trigger "/events" --source "AWS Production" --message "Print the event log for a run in sequence order with the step name and the outcome recorded for each entry."
$ openclaw alert-rule add --name "Event Log Gap" --group-by "run" --window "15m" --action "Alert when the sequence numbers of a run have a gap, because a missing event means part of the run can no longer be rebuilt from the log"
$ openclaw auto-fix add --name "Append Correction Event" --condition "rebuilt_state != recorded_final_state" --action "Append a correction event describing the difference instead of editing the earlier event, and keep both so the recorded history stays intact" --approval "auto" --notify "#ops-info" --max-runs "20 per day" --cooldown "10m"
$ openclaw runbook add --name "Replay a Run" --trigger "/runbook replay" --tags "development, audit" --steps "Read the event log in sequence order. Fold the events to rebuild state. Compare the rebuilt state with the recorded final state. Replay the run in a test environment when the two differ."

Record the steps, do not just keep the final state

Keep an Append-Only Log of What a Run Did

# Record the steps, do not just keep the final state A run that stores only its current state can tell you what it produced and nothing about how it got there. When the output is wrong, there is no record to read, and when a step fails there is nothing to replay in a safe place, so the only way to
