Sample Verbose Logs Without Losing the Signal

Logging every step of every run produces so much text that the one line which explains a failure is buried, and the cost of storing and searching it grows with the traffic. Sampling keeps a share of the routine lines and discards the rest, but a rule that treats all lines alike will throw away the error lines at the same rate as the noise. This skill covers sampling logs for agent runs: choose the rate for routine lines, always keep errors and warnings, keep the lines around a kept error so it stays readable, carry the run id on every line, and scale any count read from the data by the rate.

$ openclaw alert-rule add --name "Signal Lost" --group-by "logger" --window "1h" --action "Alert when the share of error lines kept is lower than the share of routine lines, which points at a sampling rule that did not spare the level that matters."
$ openclaw auto-fix add --name "Keep Error Lines" --condition "line.level in ['error','warn']" --action "Keep the line whatever the sampling rate and keep the neighbouring lines of the same run, rather than dropping the context that makes the error readable." --approval "auto" --notify "#ops-info" --cooldown "1h"
$ openclaw runbook add --name "Log Sampling" --trigger "/runbook log-sampling" --tags "development, ops" --steps "Choose the share of routine lines to keep. Always keep error and warn lines. Keep the lines around a kept error. Carry the run id on every line. Scale counts by the rate before reading them."
