Repairing a Failed Plan Mid-Run
When a step in a plan fails, the cheapest wrong move is to retry the whole plan and hope. The useful move is to repair it: re-read the failure, decide which steps are still valid, and replan only the broken tail. This skill covers plan repair for agents, including separating recoverable from terminal failures, preserving completed work, bounding how many repairs a run may attempt, and refusing to silently substitute a different goal for the one requested.

Repair the Broken Tail of a Plan
Repairing a Failed Plan Mid-Run# Repair the Broken Tail of a Plan When a step fails halfway through a plan, the reflex is to start over. That throws away every step that already succeeded and pays for them twice. The cheaper habit is to repair: keep the finished steps, re-read the failure, and replan only the part that broke. #
